Sean Peters1994 - 2017

A young man whose courage, optimism, and determination continue to inspire our mission.

Throughout his life

Throughout his life Sean M. Peters (1994-2017) was a force of positivity and perseverance. Those who knew him knew a devoted friend ready to face any obstacle with a smile and a joke along the way.

Even after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at just 17 months old, Sean excelled at anything he put his mind to. He prided himself on not only managing the disease but concurring it. The relentless finger pricks and insulin shots were the only sign that he was dealing with something most kids didn't have to.

There was no better example of Sean's determination than his senior day at UMass Dartmouth. Dealing with a hip contusion suffered from the game before, the trainers suggested he sit this one out. Of course, that was never an option in Sean's mind as he went on to play the entire game, scoring 2 goals on route to victory for the Corsairs.

At just 22 years old, Sean's life ended too soon, but his legacy continues to shine through The SP16 Foundation. The passion he had for helping manage T1D lives on in every grant, scholarship, and opportunity the Foundation provides. Through his generosity and strength Sean is a constant reminder of the impact one person can make, while inspiring us all to follow in his footsteps.
